In Ireland sausage rolls in an all time favorite snack often sold in deli cafe and bakeries but unfortunately i often find them greasy and bland . When shopping in Tesco i found good quality venison sausage and i thought it would be a good idea to use it in a sausage roll with onion confit and a little bit of mustard. A must try for sausage roll lover and people that never tried it.
Makes 4 sausage rolls:
*1x 320 grs puff pastry roll
*4 venison sausages
*2 red onions
*1/2 tbsp of thyme
*1 tbsp of Dijon mustard
*1/2 tbsp of olive oil
*1 tbsp of sugar
1.Preheat the oven at 180 degrees Celsius. Peel and dice the onions then place in a pan or skillet with the olive oil and Shallow fry for 5 minutes then add the sugar ant thyme , cover with a lid or tinfoil and cook on low heat for 20 minutes.
2.Cut the puff pastry into 4 rectangles , spread evenly the mustard on the 4 sheets and then add the red onion confit and place a sausage on top.
4.Beat the egg and brush on top of the pastry and score with a knife.
5.Place the sausage rolls on a baking tray and bake 25 minutes
