Guiness bread

St Patrick’s day was a few days away , and I’m sure thousand of liters has been drunk around the continent and especially  in Ireland. But surprisingly   we don’t find much Guinness flavored food around here , some bistro  might offer sometimes a Guinness stew  but it is really rare in donegal.     This bread recipe is basically a wheaten bread recipe enriched with golden syrup and Guinness. I enjoyed it with mature cheddar cheese or buttered with a cup of coffee.

Guiness breadIngredients:

*450 grs of wholemeal flour

*2 tsp of baking soda

*4 tbsp of demerara sugar

*50 grs of margarine

*2 tbsp of golden syrup

*400 ml of Guinness ( you can drink the rest)


1.Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.

2.In a saucepan melt the margarine along with the golden syrup.

3.In a bowl mix all the dry ingredients together .

4.Once the margarine has melted add the Guinness and switch off the heat.

5.Add the Guinness mixture to the dry ingredients and mix well.

6.Transfer to a prepared tin and bake 40 to 50 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius .
