Homemade scones

Homemade scones are one of Ireland’s most famous pastries. Perfect for an afternoon tea , or for breakfast , they are often eaten with fresh cream and jam . Occasionally you find scone bread which a loaf using the same recipe , which is delicious for sandwiches.

Homemade sconesIngredients:

Makes 6 scones:

*225 grs of self raising flour

*150 ml of buttermilk

*30 grs of sugar

*25 grs of butter( at room temperature)

*1 pinch of salt

 

1.Preheat the oven at 220 degrees Celsius.

2.In a mixing bowl , combine the flour, salt,sugar and butter together . Add the buttermilk .

3.Quickly knead to make a soft dough.

4.On a floured surface , roll out the dough to an inch thickness and cut 6 scones using a cookie cutter dipped in flour.

5.Place the scones on baking tray lined with greaseproof paper , brush some milk on the scones and bake for 10 minutes.

6.Once cooked chill for 10 minutes on a wire rack before eating.
